What street photography am I doing? - June'24

Since I started to think about taking photography, and street photography, seriously during the last couple of months, I have been struggling to make my photos "consistent", in a way. By consistency, I roughly mean having a few common elements across all photos:

  1. Sticking to either color or B&W

  2. The composition

  3. Having a high-level theme

  4. Things like aspect ratios, subject placement

  5. The mood

  6. To an extent, the lenses I use

What is the purpose of this? It primarily assists me in concentrating when I am taking photos - there are particular shots I may not pursue if I believe they won't contribute to my current objectives. Additionally, it aids me in becoming more disciplined - for instance, I am actively looking for specific compositions.

So what am I shooting currently?

  1. Black & White photos with heavy shadows and contrast

  2. Simple compositions, trying to ensure I follow the rule of thirds

  3. One or maximum two subjects

  4. 16:9 Aspect ratio.

  5. Isolation in a crowd, subjects by themselves - in general. All photos should have some context for the subject

  6. Wide-angle lenses - 25mm/27mm, though I am sometimes tempted by an 85mm because of the subject isolation it offers. But the context should still be there.

Here's what I have got so far. A couple of these are older photos, but they fit in.

And obviously, there are a few exceptions here and there! Though I feel this one does agree to most of the rules I have set myself.
